Women's College Player Of The Week: Tyana Cullen, Cal

The Cal women's team shocked just about everyone with its 36-34 comeback win over UC Davis in Pacific Mountain Conference play on Saturday. And Bears scrumhalf Tyana Cullen, our Player of the Week, was right in the middle of the action.

Late in the second half, Cullen helped lead a huge team effort that saw Cal claw back from a 34-24 deficit with two tries in the final three minutes to snatch the victory from the visiting Aggies.

"She's our co-captain," first-year Cal head coach Elvis Seveali'i said. "It was a massive result for the team, but from a leadership point of view, Tyana would be my player of the day. Her organization and decision making played a massive part in the result, and her delivery at scrumhalf was crisp as well."

She also contributed several try-saving tackles.

Several other players showed well for Cal, of course. Flanker Hope Cooper and prop Mariah Cummings both scored two tries, and center Alyssa Collins added one of her own. Wing Dylan Kennedy scored the try that tied the game at 34-34, setting up flyhalf Greer Sulllivan's game-winning conversion.

While we've singled out Cullen's performance, she was quick to praise her teammates as well.

"I think the team has been progressing so much these past couple of weeks," Cullen told FloRugby. "As scrumhalf, I get to see the team's structure and form as a whole, and it has improved immensely since our first game. We are starting to trust each other more and be able to run off of one another, which is amazing. We are learning how to play our game and keep our composure, and I think that really showed this past weekend."
