The event will have four separate brackets: Men's D1, Men's D2, Women's D1, and Women's Open. A total of 44 teams will participate. These teams have qualified through specific conference championships or qualifiers, and in addition, teams that did well in qualifiers were considered for at-large bids.
Men's D1
The big name here is probably Cal, which switches from the Collegiate Rugby Championship (where the Bears played every year from 2010 to 2017 and won five times). Cal hasn't had a lot of time to put aside 15s and play sevens, but the Bears have been able to make the transition before.
Kutztown has not lost a sevens tournament since last spring, while Lindenwood is the defending national champion.

Women's D1
There are very few qualifiers in this bracket, so the lineup is made up mostly of at-large teams. All of the teams involved are varsity, or in a highly elevated club status that borders on varsity. Watch out for defending champion Lindenwood, perennial challenger Life, and NIRA winner Army.

Men's D2
All but two of the teams in this bracket qualified by winning a conference championship. Only Saint Louis University and Old Dominion (both very close runners-up in their respective conferences) come in as at-larges.
Wisconsin-Whitewater is the defending champion but will have a ton of work to do against the likes of Hartford, UNC Charlotte, Norwich, and NC State.

Women's Open
This is a bracket for D2 schools, or non-varsity D1 schools. Queen's University of Charlotte is in this bracket despite being varsity, and that's because Queen's is in its first year in action and is a small school. Princeton, a D1 school, is nevertheless a club program.
Bloomsburg joins Life and Lindenwood as the only colleges with both a men's and a women's team in action in Glendale.
