UMW Leads Strong Top Pack In D1AA 7s
A look at the D1AA bracket in men's collegiate 7s.
As expected, University of Mary Washington dominated in Pool Play at the Men’s D1AA USA Rugby Collegiate 7s Championships.
Lindenwood-Belleville did well also, fueled, like UMW, by some frustration at not getting a national 15s title this season. St. Joe’s always solid in sevens, also won their pool.
There were a few notable results, however. Western Washington, expected to contend, went 0-3, while Stanford took 2nd in that pool.
That's for all the Mothers out there!

Western Michigan was very effective and pushed Lindenwood-Belleville. Florida International had to work for it against Oregon State and Nebraska, but survived at 2-1.
The game of the day may well have been Stanford against Kennesaw State. In that game Stanford broke a 12-12 tie early in the second half, and pulled away only to see KSU’s Shea O’Hanlon inch closer with time remaining.
There was time left for a restart, and KSU retained the ball for one more attack. They were patient, and had a player free on the outside for the potential game-tying try, but the pass didn’t go to hand, and the game ended 24-19 for Stanford.
So the quarterfinals look like this:
Mary Washington vs Kennesaw State
Western Michigan vs Stanford
St. Joseph’s vs FIU
Lindenwood-Belleville vs Oregon State
Four teams remain for the consolation bracket:
Iowa State vs Sam Houston
Western Washington vs Nebraska
