Five Seeds To Nationals Up For Grabs In Pacific North
Five Seeds To Nationals Up For Grabs In Pacific North
A look at the Pacific North Championships
Two men's teams and three women's teams are looking to confirm seeds to the USA Rugby Club 7s National Championships Saturday at Treasure Island in the Pacific North finals.
This tournament is unique in the American club 7s qualification landscape in that it combines two smaller regions that haven't met each other yet. While regions that have championships, such as the Midwest, bring together teams that have been facing off all summer.

In the Pacific North, teams from Northern California will meet teams from the Pacific Northwest. There's been a little crossover, but not a lot.
Here's how it looks
Women
Three seeds are up for grabs. Life West looks very strong and is the favorite, while the Washington Athletic Club out of Seattle is the main competitor for the Gladiatrix. Berkeley and ORSU are both experienced and should challenge for that third seed.
SFGG is the host team, and while they've been quiet this summer, they can't be overlooked.
All five teams play each other once, with the top two meeting once more for the #1 seed, and the 3rd and 4th teams meeting to get that third seed.
Men
Two seeds await a very strong group, but it's worth remembering that Life West already qualified through the Super Qualifier in June. So the Gladiators will enter a separate group in this tournament, fielding both Life West White and Life West Blue.
Getting to that final won't be easy, as Washington Athletic Club and Westside Ronins are both athletic and very smart. Olympic Club can bring it on the day, but have been inconsistent over the last few years in terms of what players they can draw from.
Sacramento Capitals may be the dark horse.
So it's likely going to be WAC as one of the seeds. The question may well be, if Life West can qualify with a completely separate group of players, will that be OK considering the team didn't register a separate club with USA Rugby (as Belmont Shore did)?
