AJ Injury Not Serious, Civetta Comeback Possible
Alex Goff updates fans on injuries to AJ MacGinty and Nick Civetta.
USA Rugby has released an announcement on flyhalf AJ MacGinty, who left Saturday's game against Japan early due to an injury.
MacGinty had just set up a try for Madison Hughes, but picked up an injury in the process. He left the game immediately, and Will Hooley stepped in to ick the conversion. The USA eventually lost 34-20.
But the good news is that the Eagles #10 will be healthy for the World Cup,as confirmed by USA Rugby's medical staff.
In addition, medical staff confirmed what Gary Gold said last weekâlock Nick Civetta, whose injury in a win over Canada July 27 looked very severe, is on track and could be available for the World Cup.
Civetta landed badly after a lineout against Canada, and immediately went to ground grabbing his left leg (reportedly his ankle, which dislocated) and in obvious pain. The 6-8 former University of Notre Dame lock was stretchered off.
However, the ankle was apparently re-attached on the field (which doesn't sound like a lot of fun for anyone), and coaches have been optimistic that he could be back on the field soon.
But Civetta's ability to play in Japan 2019, said the statement, "will be contingent on the next several weeks of rehabilitation."
No other players are listed as injured.
The USA next plays Canada at BC Place in Vancouver, BC on September 7. That game will be LIVE on FloRugby.
