USA sevens team coaches Chris Brown and Mike Friday were on hand to watch the USA Rugby Club 7s Championships, and overall liked what they saw.

"I would say it’s the strongest I’ve seen it," said Brown. "To know that four or five teams could have honestly won it is brilliant to see.

Brown was also in the announcers booth with Pat Clifton and James Paterson during the live FloRugby broadcast.

Several players put their hands up for Brown and he was especially pleased with these players:

Alena Olsen, San Diego Surfers. A good creator who was also dangerous with the ball and "demanded the defense to respect her or she would break the line herself."

Kayla Lawson, San Diego Surfers. "She showed effort on effort to chase back to stop multiple tries and had speed to burn on attack." 

Tegan McDonald, San Diego Surfers. "Aerially brave and a workhorse."

Evan Hoese, Berkeley All Blues and Jennina Duncan, Washington Athletic Club (both 15s Eagles). Both showed an "ability to spot a gap and take it or play a team mate through the line."

Summer Harris-Jones, ARPTC Blue. "She was powerful on both sides of the ball and defends the corner brilliantly."

Friday, meanwhile, was also happy with the level of play. 

"It was very good competition on the pitch; some great games," he said. He augmented his comments while in the commentary booth.

Friday also mentioned some players he was impressive with. Former AIC standout Gavan D'Amore-Morrison was very good in the air and on the ground.

Aaron Martin from Kansas City is young (22) and strong in the air. He will be playing for Denver in the RugbyTown 7s.

Danny Gianascoli made out highlight reel of top tries (as did D'Amore-Morrison) is also young and showed well.

Corey Jones had a big impact for NAV 7s, while on Atlanta Old White, Darrell Williams is at Life University, but will be monitored.
