Darcy Graham quick-tapped near the goal-line and pinballed his way into the try-zone to get Scotland on the board after just two minutes. Adam Hastings was accurate from out wide to give the Scots an early 7-0 lead. 

A dominant series of Scottish scrums set the tone for the next 20 minutes, and eventually Scotland was rewarded with a penalty on the Georgia 22. With a kick to the corner and a strong maul, Scotland had a 12-0 lead after 27 minutes. 

Some strong territorial kicking and defensive pressure had Scotland within Georgia’s 22 once again, and with their next possession the Scotland forwards’ speed and accuracy around the park was too much for Georgia and they were in once again. Flanker Hamish Watson had the honors this time, crashing over in the corner, and 33 minutes in, Scotland led 17-0. 

A period of intense Scottish pressure went begging, with the home team unable to capitalize on its high count of phases around the Georgian try-line just before half. Georgia managed to hold up the Scots with the clock in the red to keep the deficit at just 17 points at half, despite having only around 10 phases of possession. 

The goal-line stand before half seemed to breathe fresh life in the Georgians, and they came out in the second half firing. Some good phase play and a Scotland mistake under the high ball got them inside the 22, and they quickly took advantage. A great pass from halfback Vasil Lobzhanidze put Akaki Tabutsadze through and the winger broke a Duhan Van de Merwe tackle to score in the corner. Georgia back in it at 17-7. 

Scotland, however, hit back instantly through Fraser Brown with another rolling maul to push the scores back to 22-7 after 50 minutes.

In the 55^th minute, the much-anticipated return of Finn Russell came to fruition. After a brief falling out with coach Gregor Townsend which saw Russell left out of the Six Nations team, the Racing 92 man and the boss have since made amends and Russell played in his first Scotland game since their fate-sealing bout with Japan at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. 

Just past the hour-mark, Scotland’s maul was at it again. This time replacement hooker Stuart McInally was the try-scorer, and Hastings’ first successful kick in four tries made it 29-7 with 18 minutes to go. 

Russell notched a nice assist in the 70^th minute to debutant Van de Merwe on a pretty inside line. Russell’s double-pump on the pass fixed the defenders and his winger did the rest, knifing through for his first international try. 36-7 Scotland with ten to go. 

With the game opening wide up, huge Scottish Lock Ben Toolis went on a rampaging 50 meter run and a subsequent penalty had them in the corner for a lineout yet again. Off the back of a powerful maul, some quick hands to winger Darcy Graham sent the little winger in for a second try. 41-7 Scotland. 

Scotland saved its best for the final act of the match. Some good hands from Finn Russell put Blair Kinghorn into space out wide, and the fullback grubbered through, then chipped the ball up to himself and regathered brilliantly to go in for the final score.
