What is it with Gregor Townsend’s Scotland teams and a propensity for inconsistency?

Under his tenure, the Scots have defeated England, Wales, Australia, Argentina, and France, and have lost to Japan, Fiji and the United States, as well as crash out of the group stage in the last Rugby World Cup.

Quality is not the issue. Scotland has some of the world’s most exciting players – Finn Russell, Stuart Hogg, Hamish Watson to name a few – and they have put together some of the most glorious tries over the past four years. But despite the talent and depth in the Scotland squad, they have not been able to win more than three games in row since 2011.

They’ll have that chance on Saturday against Wales – a proud team that’s now lost four in a row.

Chance For Some Hardware

A good run of form would be a welcome sight for Scottish fans, who see this fall’s Autumn Nations Cup as a great opportunity to fill their trophy cabinet for the first time this millennium.

Grouped in Pool B with France, Fiji, and Italy, the Scots have a realistic shot at reaching the ANC final in December. Scotland has won its most recent outing against each of these three teams, so it’s well within their ability to navigate through the pool.

Saturday’s matchup with Wales will be a good indicator to the rest of the world if Scotland has washed away the stain of inconsistency, or if we’ll see the same old Scotland churning out the same old results.
